The company
Sportstats provides the technology, data infrastructure, and operational services behind endurance events around the world. Its capabilities include professional race timing and results, live athlete tracking, registration and participant management, event logistics, custom software, marketing, and race-day services.
With more than three decades in the industry, Sportstats supports running, cycling, triathlon, and other endurance events across an international client base.
The Opportunity
Sportstats Performance is an established endurance sports technology and event-services company with more than 30 years of operating history. The company provides timing, results, tracking, registration, logistics, software, and related services to endurance events around the world.
At the time of the 2023 acquisition, Sportstats had an established international customer base, proprietary technology and operating infrastructure supporting running, cycling, triathlon, and other endurance events.
Investment Thesis
We saw an opportunity to acquire an established business with a strong reputation, longstanding customer relationships, specialized technology, and a recurring role in the endurance sports ecosystem.
Sportstats combined an experienced operating team and established international footprint with opportunities to expand its technology platform, broaden its services, and build upon a business that had developed meaningful industry relationships over more than three decades.
Carbon River's Approach
Sports Acquisition LLC was formed to raise equity for the acquisition of Sportstats Performance in 2023.
The investment expanded the principals' activities beyond traditional real estate into an established operating company. Following the acquisition, the focus has been on supporting the existing business while investing in technology, operational capabilities, and opportunities to expand the services Sportstats provides to event organizers and athletes.
Current Status / Outcome
Sportstats remains an active operating-company investment. The business continues to provide timing, technology, data, and event services to endurance events across an international customer base while expanding its technology and service capabilities.
